Do I need SpiritBox if I already use LM Studio?
You can chat with a local model in LM Studio without buying SpiritBox. SpiritBox Pro is worth considering if you want its Guide-based conversation interface and Piper spoken replies, and are comfortable maintaining the additional setup.

What LM Studio already does
LM Studio lets you download a model, load it and chat with it. Its Presets save system prompts and settings for reuse. You do not need SpiritBox simply to give a model a role or reuse an instruction.
LM Studio can also run a local API server that other applications connect to. SpiritBox Pro uses a compatible model through that server.

What SpiritBox Pro adds to this setup
Pro offers a separate conversation interface with custom Spirit Guides. You can define roles and switch Guides within a conversation. For example, a writing Guide can produce a draft, and a reviewer Guide can challenge it before you choose the final wording.
Pro also offers Piper spoken replies and keeps conversation history locally. You type your messages. Microphone input and two-way voice conversation are not included.
Different Guide instructions do not make the underlying model independent or infallible. A second role may repeat the first role's mistake. Compare names, numbers, dates and commitments against your original information.

What Pro requires
Pro costs $49 USD once. It requires Docker Desktop, LM Studio and a compatible downloaded model. Model files are not included, and model choice affects memory needs, speed and output quality.
The Pro package runs the conversation app and Piper as two Docker services. Windows setup uses Linux containers and WSL2. The Mac download is for Apple Silicon. Both require the LM Studio server on port 1234. Follow the package instructions for your edition and read the full requirements before buying.
